Sheepblue in practice at Ausee


The Ausee is a 23-hectare lake in the middle of the beautiful Danube wetlands near Asten in Upper Austria. In addition to bathing fun for young and old with generous sunbathing areas, several restaurants and shady car parking lots a variety of attractive leisure and sports facilities are offered, including two water ski and wakeboard lifts.

Starting position

In the season from April to October, the staffing needs to be adjusted to different opening times depending on the month and the weather. While at the beginning of the season only one wakeboard lift is put into operation on the weekends, in high season all sports facilities are open for extra long periods. In addition there are individual coaching units at the lifts and the extensive offer such as the rental shop, the store as well as several catering and service points.


All these conditions lead to a complex workforce planning, especially because the operation of water sports facilities requires special operating and break times and special qualifications. In addition, weather dependency complicates long-term planning and the operator must be able to manage fluctuations in staffing in the short and medium term.


After a short training on the software from Sheepblue and minimal data entry, planning was started immediately. The individual stations such as the two water ski / wakeboard lifts, the shop, the rental, etc. were created as individual organizational units in the software of Sheepblue. In a short workshop, the peculiarities of the personnel deployment planning were explained and the individual strategy and methodology was worked out together.


Right at the beginning, it became apparent that staff planning with Sheepblue brought a massive improvement in the overview. The employee-centered view shows the manager within a few seconds which employee is working on which station at what time. Bottlenecks can thus be easily identified and responded just as quickly if planning changes in the short to medium term due to weather changes or major events. After all, employees always see their current roster through a mobile website and know exactly when and for which station they are assigned. This facilitates the daily work, saves time and leads to increased employee satisfaction.
